At Cancer Council WA, we’re calling on the community to support life-saving local cancer research by donating to our annual Cancer Research Giving Day on Tuesday, 10 February 2026.

Thanks to the generous support of our matched donor, every gift will be doubled until we reach our $350,000 goal, or until 9pm on Tuesday 10 February – doubling the impact for the 38 West Australians who receive a life-changing diagnosis every day.

The power of cancer research can be seen in stories like that of 20-year-old Tayla Styles.

When Tayla was in Year 12, she thought the mole on her neck was nothing to worry about. Within weeks, she was diagnosed with Stage 3 melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer.

Tayla underwent surgery to remove the mole and affected lymph nodes, followed by 12 months of targeted oral therapy. Despite being in and out of hospital, she continued her studies and played elite-level netball.

Thanks to advances in cancer research, Tayla was able to access targeted oral chemotherapy – a gentler, more effective treatment than what had been available just a few years earlier.

Today, Tayla is cancer free.

Thanks to research, there have been significant improvements in screening, diagnosis and treatment. Survival rates for some of the most common cancers, including breast, melanoma and prostate cancer, are now more than 90 per cent, and the overall five-year survival rate for all cancers is more than 70 per cent.

However, with around 14,000 West Australians diagnosed with cancer each year, continued investment in world-class local research remains critical in improving detection, diagnosis and treatment outcomes for every cancer.

Tackling cancer takes all of us. This Cancer Research Giving Day, we’re asking the community to donate and help unlock the answers to a cancer free future.
