Wyndham City Council is reminding tenants and home owners to take pride in making sure their properties are neat and tidy this Spring and keep our City a beautiful place to live.
Wyndham City’s Local Laws team is delighted that so many residents have been making an effort to keep their properties looking good and would like it to stay that way.
Safer Communities Portfolio Holder Cr Kim McAliney said when Council inspected properties last year, they spoke to about 600 residents about their properties and only seven were issued with a fine for not complying with local laws.
“The sort of things that Council staff are looking for are overgrown grass and trees or any branches or roots obstructing footpaths or creating a safety concern; unconstrained rubbish; motor vehicle parts in the garden; discarded building materials; or any discarded material that pose a hazard or health risk,” Cr McAliney said.
“It is best to conduct a Spring clean of your property before it becomes an eyesore and interferes with your neighbours’ right to live in a clean, tidy and safe neighbourhood.”
“If your property comes to the attention of the City Local Laws team, you may be issued with a notice to clean up within 14 days.
“If this is not complied with, property owners may be issued fines and under some circumstances, other associated clean up costs”
“So why not make it a family working bee event, where everyone gets out and does their part to clean up the garden to give yourself and your neighbours peace of mind this Spring? Take pride in your property and keep our City a beautiful place to live”
“Regular maintenance of your property is the easiest option, so if you are too busy or unable to keep on top of the gardening, maybe considerer hiring a gardener.”
