Community asked to prepare for rainfall and possible flooding

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting heavy rain which may cause flooding on the south coast on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 April.

As the lead agency in the response to floods and storms, the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) has issued warnings to the community to prepare for potential severe weather.

Advice from the SES includes having a plan and knowing what to do in an emergency:

  • Stay up to date with the latest warnings on the Hazards Near Me App and the NSW SES website
  • Stay vigilant and monitor conditions
  • For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the NSW SES on 132 500.

The SES is also urging residents to prepare their homes by cleaning out gutters and drains, trimming overhanging branches and tying down any loose items. Sandbags are being made available by the SES to anyone with properties prone to flooding and can be sought by contacting the SES on 132 500.

Cars should be moved from underneath trees and if people are travelling over the next few days they are advised not to drive, ride or walk through flood water. Use livetraffic.com to plan trips.

Locally, Council will monitor weather forecasts and water levels for closed lakes and waterways, including Tabourie Lake, Swan Lake and the Shoalhaven River. Lake Conjola and Burrill Lake are currently open to the sea.
