A Mid North Coast woman who lost her home in the 2019/20 bushfires while fighting to save her local community hall has been honoured with an award for her selfless dedication as a Crown Land Manager.
Kim MacDonald, of Bobin, won the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment Individual Excellence in Crown Land Management Award at the 2020 NSW/ACT Regional Achievement and Community Awards ahead of a strong field of nominations.
The winners were announced on Friday 20th November during an Online Awards Presentation.
The NSW/ACT Regional Achievement and Community Awards acknowledge the valuable contributions individuals, communities and businesses are making throughout regional NSW and the ACT.
Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey congratulated Kim MacDonald, who is the Vice President of the committee that manages Bobin Hall, a Crown Lands asset managed by the local community.
“During the November 2019 bushfire, Kim and her partner Gary lost their own farmhouse as they fought to protect the Hall from fire using only a garden hose,” Mrs Pavey said.
“Despite their loss, Kim ensured that the Hall had the resources to offer those who had nowhere else to go. She established the Hall as a bushfire recovery centre and arranged for the loan of a generator to provide power to the Hall and for a cool room for food storage.
“Kim is a local hero and an outstanding example of the types of people who volunteer to support their communities as Crown land managers across NSW.”
