The community is being invited to learn more about the solution to remove the level crossing at Denny Avenue at an information session to be held on February 20, 2019.
Attendees can speak one-on-one with team members on a variety of topics including the next steps associated with the solution, which involves replacing the Denny Avenue level crossing by raising the railway and creating a road underpass at Davis Road.
The design was chosen following a thorough options analysis that found this solution would offer the best outcomes for the community in terms of road operations, safety, civic improvements and cost.
Removing the crossing will improve the safety of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians at the crossing with safer connections, maintain an important east-west connection between Albany Highway and Railway Avenue, and enable public space improvements in the area.
The public is invited to attend the informal information session (between 4pm and 7pm) at Frye Park Pavilion on February 20 by registering online here.
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
“I encourage all community members to come along to the information session, and see how the design has progressed since we announced the solution last year.
“Denny Avenue is a dangerous level crossing. We know frustrated drivers take huge risks at this site by trying to ‘beat the boom gate’ and crossing the tracks while gates are down or descending.”
As stated by Armadale MLA Tony Buti:
“Pedestrians and cyclists will also be safer once we remove this crossing.
“This is an exciting METRONET project for the people of Kelmscott and will act as the catalyst to revitalise the precinct around the site, improving liveability in the area.
“As well as a boost to the town centre, we will also see a much easier run across the rail line for school drop offs at Kelmscott Senior High School.”
