Como Park back to its best

In early-June, the fencing around Como Park came down, marking the end of a seven-month redevelopment of the popular park and sports oval.

Since closing to the public in October 2021, Como Park has been the location of an extensive program of improvement works, that will ensure the park will remain in tip top condition for many years to come.

The scope of works for the redevelopment included:

  1. Construction of a new below ground stormwater drainage, plus a perimeter stormwater drainage system to collect water runoff from the oval and channel it to the nearby Yarra River,
  2. Installation of agricultural drain at locations across the oval – to improve the overall park drainage,
  3. A new pop-up sprinkler irrigation system,
  4. Completely removing the old turf and laying new drought tolerant Santa Ana couch,
  5. Redeveloping the turf cricket wickets and resizing the cricket oval to meet safety standards and club requirements, and
  6. Refurbishing the shared path that runs around the oval.

Como Park is one of our most popular recreation and sports grounds, and is used year-round for training and game days for cricket in summer and Australian Rules Football in winter. It’s also a go-to for local residents for exercise and to walk their dogs off-leash.
