Campers visiting the free Cann River Rainforest Caravan Park will soon have a new pedestrian access ramp to provide a safer path and direct link from the campsite into the township.
Mayor Cr Natalie O’Connell said the $70,000 works have commenced on the improved access path and are expected to be completed by the end of the year, in time for the busy Christmas period.
“The project is part of the Cann River footpath connections project which has seen the completion of the Cann River Streetscape development and other smaller footpath projects in Cameron Street and along the Monaro Highway,” CR O’Connell said.
“The direct access pedestrian ramp is disabled compliant and designed in a zig zag configuration to allow for wheelchair access, and safer and easier access for all.
“The township really is a hive of activity with a variety of cafes, shops and bakeries to entice visitors to relax and stay a while.”
Local contractor All Building Custom Builders from Mallacoota led by Andy Harris and team are undertaking the works in conjunction with Landscaping by council’s Mallacoota Works team.
Cann River is ideally located to Croajingolong National Park and the stunning rainforests, estuarine waterways and coastline of Far East Gippsland including the Drummer Rainforest Walk near the free caravan park. The park is pet friendly, no powered sites or hot water is available.
