Connecting Glen Waverley and Box Hill with new express bus service

Liberal Party Victoria

The Liberals and Nationals will deliver an express bus service with limited stops for communities in Monash and Whitehorse, getting people where they want to go, when they want to, while easing road congestion.

The new bus route will run express between Glen Waverley Station and Box Hill Station, servicing the Syndal shops, Mount Waverley Secondary College and Deakin University along the way.

Commuters will be able to jump on the bus every 10 minutes during peak times, every 15 minutes in off peak, and every half an hour in the evenings and on weekends.

The new route will be established quickly, will cause no disruption for residents and will have the flexibility to get commuters to their destination, regardless of road closures, faults and other route obstructions.

Both the Public Transport Users Association and Melbourne on Transit team have identified the benefit that improved bus services and frequency has on road congestion.

This commitment also complements the Liberals and Nationals’ $2 flat fare which will apply to travel on the metropolitan train, tram and bus network.

Shadow Minister for Public Transport, Danny O’Brien, said the service would be a cost effective, efficient and reliable option for residents across Monash and Whitehorse.

“As part of the Liberals and Nationals integrated public transport plan, the route will immediately connect Victorians to their places of work, entertainment and education,” Mr O’Brien said.

“This route is needed now and is something the Liberals and Nationals will deliver should we form government in November.”

Member for Forest Hill and Candidate for Glen Waverley, Neil Angus, said this was an immediate and viable solution to improve transport connections between Glen Waverley and Box Hill.

“A transport option that services lots of people, across key stations and can be delivered tomorrow, is a sensible and common-sense solution.”

Liberal Candidate for Ashwood, Asher Judah, said this was a great announcement to deliver public transport connections for the community.

“Rain, hail, or shine, you know there will be a bus waiting for you, getting you where you want to go, when you need to.”

Liberal Candidate for Box Hill, Nicole Tai-Ei Werner, said Box Hill residents would benefit significantly from the new limited stop bus service.

“Whether you’re heading to uni, catching up with friends or heading to work, this public transport link will deliver even more connections for the area.”
