Connecting through art: collaborative masterpiece takes shape

Students from Plenty River College have been busy creating a public art installation for Riverside Community Activity Centre in South Morang.

Together with the City of Whittlesea Youth Services team and local artist Sophie Arrighi, students have each painted a wooden puzzle piece that will soon be formed together to create a complete artwork.

City of Whittlesea Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson said Council was thrilled to be supporting this collaborative piece.

“This project is not just about creating a stunning public art installation; it’s about celebrating the creativity and diversity that thrives within the City of Whittlesea. The mosaic artwork is a testament to the unique talents and perspectives of our youth,” she said.

One student leading the charge is 18-year-old Jay, an aspiring support worker with a knack for digital art.

Jay painted a Spotted Marsh Frog, inspired by tadpoles he found in Mill Park, on his puzzle piece and has offered invaluable advice for young artists eager to make a difference in the community.
