Construction is underway on a new CFA fire station for Riddells Creek, marking an important milestone for the brigade and the community it has protected for more than 120 years.
CFA volunteers, local representatives and project partners recently gathered to turn the first sod at the future station site on Main Road, officially commencing construction of the new facility.
The station will replace the brigade’s current home at 67 Main Road and has been designed to support the brigade’s operational, training and community engagement needs well into the future.
Features will include a motor room with three drive-through bays, operational and storage areas, a multipurpose room, accessible amenities, a new car park and associated road improvements.
Riddells Creek Fire Brigade Captain Gill Metz said the project would enhance the safety and wellbeing of the volunteer firefighters.
“This is an exciting milestone for our brigade and community,” Gill said.
“Our members have proudly served Riddells Creek and surrounding areas for generations, and this new station will give us the facilities we need to continue providing a strong emergency response into the future.”
Assistant Chief Fire Officer for District 02, Bryan Suckling, said it was exciting to see things get underway at the site.
“I know a lot of people, myself included, are really happy to see this build progressing and we look forward to the day the brigade can operate from their new home,” Bryan said.
Established in 1904, Riddells Creek Fire Brigade has 60 members and responds to an average of 148 incidents each year, including fires, road crashes and hazardous materials incidents.
Over the years, brigade members have supported communities through significant emergencies, including the 2014 Riddells Creek fire, the Walmer/Fogartys Gap fire and the Clarkefield fire in February 2026.
The new facility has also been designed with sustainability in mind, incorporating solar panels, rainwater recycling and infrastructure to support future electric vehicle charging.
