Construction of signalised pedestrian crossing set to start in West Ballina

Construction of signalised pedestrian crossing set to start in West Ballina

On Monday 17 April 2023 Ballina Shire Council will commence works to install a signalised pedestrian crossing on River Street near the Westower Tavern between Riverview Avenue and Quays Drive, West Ballina, to provide a safer crossing for cyclists and pedestrians.

The works will include:

  • Pedestrian crossing lights between Riverview Avenue and Quays Drive
  • Line marking and signage
  • Upgrade to the existing bus stop
  • Additional shared path infrastructure.

During these works the following traffic conditions will be in place:

  • One lane of River Street, in each direction, will be closed at times
  • Access to River Street properties will be maintained with traffic control (during construction hours).
  • Speed limit reduced to 40kmph through construction zones

Footpath works: Pedestrian access will be maintained. However, at times there may be temporary pedestrian detours around construction zones.

Noise: There will be noise during construction. Construction works will occur during the day to limit any noise disturbance to residents and visitors staying with accommodation providers.

Parking: Street parking will be unavailable during construction. Motorists will need to use parking on either side of the construction zone.

Bus stop: The bus stop will be temporarily relocated to the nearest available ‘clear zone’ towards Riverview Avenue.

Works are expected to continue to June 2023. Council thanks our community for their patience during this essential upgrade.

The signalised pedestrian crossing is part of the River Street Duplication project. For more information and to receive project updates via email visit ballina.nsw.gov.au/RiverStreetDuplication
