Construction is now officially underway on one of Camden’s newest recreational destinations, with Camden Council celebrating the sod turning for Stage 1 of The Crest Open Space and Learn to Ride Facility in Gledswood Hills.
Today’s milestone marks the beginning of Stage-1 Works to transform 7.4 hectare of an overall land parcel of 48-hectare site into a vibrant, family-friendly destination that encourages outdoor recreation, active transport and community connection.
Stage 1 of the project will deliver:
- A bicycle adventure course incorporating learn-to-ride components;
- A mountain bike trail;
- Amenities and shelter;
- Car parking;
- Kickabout areas; and
- Shared pathways.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the sod turning was an exciting step forward in delivering a long-awaited community asset.
“Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for The Crest and our growing community,” she said.
“This project has been years in the making, with the Master Plan shaped by extensive community consultation and adopted by Council in 2021. It is incredibly rewarding to now see construction officially commence.
“As one of the fastest-growing areas in NSW, it’s vital we continue investing in high-quality open spaces that support healthy, active lifestyles and create opportunities for families, friends and neighbours to connect.
“The Crest will become a destination unlike any other in Camden, providing recreational opportunities for people of all ages and abilities while enhancing the liveability of our community for generations to come.”
The project has received significant support from the NSW Government, including $518,650 through the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure’s Metropolitan Greenspace Program for the design and delivery of a district-level bicycle facility, and $288,805 through the Infrastructure Grants: Sport and Recreation Program to assist with construction.
Construction on Stage 1 is expected to be completed in early 2027.
