Council delivers ongoing capital works program for Brimbank

Brimbank Council is continuing to progress with its current capital works program in a responsible manner, while focusing on supporting local jobs and businesses.

As part of efforts to stimulate economic activity, Council will also continue advocating for State and Federal Government assistance to bring forward future capital works projects that boost job opportunities and infrastructure improvements in Brimbank, subject to any further restrictions that may impact the construction sector.

Brimbank Mayor, Cr Georgina Papafotiou said it’s important for Council to continue with its ongoing capital works program, and help support local jobs and businesses across the city.

‘We’re getting on with the job of helping our communities through this period, and ensuring that vital projects are being delivered to benefit Brimbank now and into the future.

‘Council is also encouraging government investment in 41 key road-based projects for a fast-tracked delivery program that will support and stimulate the local economy during the COVID-19 crisis.

‘I’m pleased we’re making progress on a number of key capital works projects across the city.

‘We’re working hard on transforming the heart of Sunshine with works progressing on the $5.85 million Hampshire Road Civic Green development. Along with the upgrades at the MB Lynch Memorial Gardens, we’re on track to complete the new town centre spaces that benefit our community and local traders.

‘The St Albans town centre is a hive of activity with the $1.67 million Alfrieda Street Civic Plaza soon-to-be unveiled as an exciting new cultural and event gathering space.

‘There’s been great progress at Errington Reserve in St Albans. Works are due for completion in June 2020 on the new $4.3 million sports and community pavilion, which will transform the area into an inviting space. The $1.9 million tennis courts project is now completed and offers new synthetic grass courts, hard court, and multi-purpose hard court, including a BBQ area, new lighting and landscaping.’

Council is continuing its program of Creating Better Parks with a number of park upgrades planned for completion later this year including the $450,000 park upgrade at Roseleigh Reserve in Sydenham.

‘We can’t wait to deliver all of these amazing projects for the community to enjoy once restrictions are eased.

‘Despite the challenges that a pandemic has thrown at us, Council is committed to delivering the capital works program and improving infrastructure outcomes in Brimbank,’ Cr Papafotiou said.

While many facilities have temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Council is still working hard to ensure they will be up and running once allowed. This includes building and minor facility upgrades such as painting works at Glengala Community Centre, Deer Park Hall and Sassella Park Hall, fit-out at the new St Albans pop-up gym, new flooring at Sunshine Library Level 1 Children’s Areas, a kitchen upgrade at the Deer Park Playgroup and toilet upgrades at St Albans Community Youth Club and Keilor Golf Course to name a few.

As part of Brimbank’s overarching advocacy to Federal and State Government for a ‘COVID-19 Economic and Health Partnership’, Council will look to take advantage of government support packages to include local projects such as the North-West City Deal, St Albans Health and Wellbeing Hub, Melbourne Airport Rail and the Home of the Matildas bid.
