Deer Park rail corridor urban design principles adopted

Community feedback has been included in developing the Final Deer Park Rail Corridor Urban Design Principles.

Following Council’s extensive lobbying the State Government has committed to the removal of three dangerous and congested level crossings along the Ballarat (Deer Park) rail line.

The design principles focus on optimising the benefits of the rail upgrade projects planned for Deer Park and Ardeer train stations, including level crossing removals at Fitzgerald Road, Ardeer, and Station Road and Robinsons Road, Deer Park.

Brimbank Mayor, Cr Georgina Papafotiou said Council adopted the urban design principles in preparation for the removal of the three level crossings and the upgrading of two train stations.

‘We’re thrilled these much-needed works are set to improve safety, traffic and transport connections for drivers, pedestrians and rail commuters in Deer Park, Sunshine West and the surrounding suburbs.

‘The design principles will guide Council’s advocacy and inform discussions with the State Government on the planning, design, and delivery of the level crossing removal and rail upgrade projects.

‘These are important city shaping projects that have the potential to deliver enormous benefit to the local community and make our city thrive.

‘We will work with all levels of government to make sure the community of Brimbank and the western region benefits from these rail upgrade projects.

‘Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the draft design principles. Your views and comments helped us shape the design principles so that we can deliver on sustainable design, safety, economic development, and maximise outcomes from these rail upgrade projects’, Cr Papafotiou said.
