The Liberals’ plan for ferries on the Derwent is the latest in a series of half-baked election promises to sink without a trace.
Shadow Minister for Roads and Infrastructure David O’Byrne said the Hodgman Liberal Government is fumbling around in the dark and has no plan and no vision to improve infrastructure and public transport.
“Apart from thought bubbles and reviews they are a do-nothing Government,” Mr O’Byrne said.
“Not one infrastructure project has been commenced in Tasmania that was not already announced by the previous Federal and State Labor Governments. This is five wasted years.
“Today’s news shows that ferries are unlikely to be transporting passengers on the Derwent under a Liberal Government.
“It is unsurprising that yet another promise made for a front page headline has fallen flat on its face.
“Tasmanians are fed up with traffic congestion and deserve better.
“Jeremy Rockliff promised to release a 30-year infrastructure strategy before the end of 2018, then it was delayed until March and now it won’t be delivered this financial year.
“The Liberals have seemingly given up on their underground bus mall after Jeremy Rockliff said it wasn’t his idea, and there’s been no action on their promises for a Mowbray to Riverside Bridge or promised fifth lane to Kingston from Hobart.
“The Hobart Airport Roundabout upgrade was announced in 2014 and is yet to be started.
“The Hodgman Liberal Government’s track record on infrastructure in Tasmania is woeful.”
