Campaspe Shire Council is set to benefit from additional funding from the Federal Government to upgrade local roads and community infrastructure.

Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said the stimulus, announced in May 2020, is designed to support jobs and help local economies bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Campaspe Shire Council has been allocated $2.6 million of the overall $500 million program, to be spent in the 2020/21 financial year,” Cr Weston said.

“Projects that qualify must deliver benefits to the community such as improved accessibility and safety, along with visual amenity. This includes construction, maintenance and/or improvements to Council owned assets, including natural assets, that are generally accessible to the public.”

“Council has prioritised a list of projects to be undertaken throughout the shire which include gravel road stabilising and shoulder works, new and upgrades to culverts, street trees, road line marking, footpaths and lighting.”

Council selected projects that were:

  • Able to be completed by 30 June 2021
  • Additional to the pre-COVID-19 program for 2020/21
  • Able to be brought forward
  • Distributed throughout the shire
  • Able to proceed with little to no design
  • Able to take benefit of using an improved gravel road resheeting technique recently successfully trialled
  • Able to undertake the same type of work, like shoulder grading, across a number of roads.

A full list of the 52 specific projects can be viewed on pages 58 to 60 in the 18 August Council meeting agenda document on Council’s website.
