Fundraising for youth homelessness

Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC) from 4 Wing recently laced up their running shoes and pounded the pavement, raising almost $23,000 to help address youth homelessness.

‘Flying Fit’ is an annual 5km fun run held at RAAF Base Point Cook, Victoria, with cadets and the wider 4 Wing community raising money for a selected charity each year.

This year, the nominated charity was Melbourne City Mission Frontyard Youth Services.

Frontyard Youth Services is a specialist youth homelessness organisation that helps young people find pathways out of homelessness.

Officer Commanding 4 Wing, Wing Commander (AAFC) Kylie Walker, said participating cadets went above and beyond this year to raise money for a good cause.

“Approximately 230 cadets and staff participated in our run. Our goal was to raise $20,000 for youth homelessness around Victoria,” Wing Commander Walker said.

“Fundraising efforts continued on the Sunday and our final figure was $22,806.

“I was incredibly proud, and admittedly a bit exhausted, to witness our cadets’ enthusiastic participation in the fun run. Their dedication to training and fundraising for this event reflects their genuine commitment to giving back to the community.”
