Toowoomba Regional Council is inviting the Gowrie Junction community to have a conversation with Councillors about their ideas for the town.
This follows a pilot “Community Conversations” event in Cecil Plains in September.
Mayor Geoff McDonald said the event was aimed at gathering businesses and residents’ vision for their town and surrounding area.
“This is an opportunity for the community to speak directly to Councillors and share their aspirational ideas for the future of Gowrie Junction,” Cr McDonald said.
“We want to hear residents’ thoughts on ways to shape the development of the town and community.”
Cr McDonald said although there would not be any pre-determined topics for the event, Council acknowledged that issues such as the Toowoomba North-South Transport Corridor and Inland Rail were a priority for the Gowrie Junction community.
“Council encourages residents to engage with the Department of Transport and Main Roads on the transport corridor project and with ARTC on the Inland Rail project,” he said.
“For this event, residents are invited to discuss any ideas that fall within Council’s remit. Taking a positive approach and discussing ideas will give Council a better understanding of the community’s needs and aspirations.”
Mayor McDonald said the format for the event would be an informal conversation with Councillors with catering provided. People will then have the opportunity to have their ideas recorded by Council staff and to then have further conversations on specific topics with Councillors. All the feedback will be collated for consideration by Council or referred to the relevant external agency.
The event will also feature a roller derby demonstration by the Toowoomba City Rollers.
The “Community Conversations” event will be held at Gowrie Junction Hall, 24 Old Homebush Road, Gowrie Junction on Thursday, 7 December from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
