Police have charged a 44-year-old Mango Hill man following alleged high range drink driving in Coomera yesterday (December 12).
It will be alleged around 10am yesterday morning, the 44-year-old man was driving a prime mover truck on Dreamworld Parkway.
A short time later officers allegedly located the driver on the side of the road, with an empty bottle of liquor beside him and the vehicle still running.
He allegedly refused to comply with police direction to submit for a roadside breath test and attempted to flee back into his vehicle.
Police arrested the man at the scene and transported him to Southport Watchhouse, where he allegedly provided a specimen of breath indicating 0.311 blood alcohol content.
The 44-year-old man was charged with one count each of in charge of a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor and obstruct police and is due to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on January 10.
His licence was immediately suspended.
Police continue to appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash cam vision to contact investigators.
Sergeant Neville Stretton from Coomera station said drink driving was a contributing factor in more than 20 per cent of road fatalities in Queensland.
“Too many people are killed and seriously injured each year on Queensland roads as a result of drink driving.
“It’s disappointing that we are still seeing drivers get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol.
“Drinking alcohol reduces your ability to drive safely. It affects your judgement, vision, coordination and reflexes, which increases your risk of having a crash.
“Making that decision to drink drive can also have catastrophic consequences for other road users and their families.”
