Message from chair 5 April

Australian Medical Association

In this issue of e-DiT, I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce you to our new AMA Council of Doctors in Training (AMACDT) Special Interest Group (SIG) – our Global Health SIG! For many years, DiTs across the country have asked us how they can be involved in AMA’s Global Health policy, and we are glad to be able to open up this group to interested DiTs who want to contribute to this space.

With so much going on with the pandemic, natural disasters and climate change, and war – it is a relevant time to contribute and have your say. Our Global Health SIG will be chaired by Dr Jelyn Thong and Dr Georgia Behrens who have both been passionate advocates in this space. They draw upon their various experiences to lead this group and our DiT voice with regards to Global Health. With the war in the Ukraine and numbers of refugees entering Australia, the group has its first task of updating the AMA Position Statement on Asylum Seeker & Refugee Healthcare in order to guide our advocacy in this area. This group will also play a vital role in connecting us globally to other networks and stakeholders including the World Medical Association – Junior Doctor Network (WMA JDN).
