Queensland’s highest achieving Year 12 graduates from the class of 2022 were recognised and rewarded at a ceremony in Brisbane today.

This year 43 graduates received a prestigious Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) Achievement Award for their exceptional academic achievements.

Cavendish Road State High School student Nathan Nguyen took out the Outstanding Academic Achiever award, with the student receiving a certificate, trophy and $5000 for his efforts.

Receiving A grades in seven general subjects and completing five university subjects during years 11 and 12, Nathan is set to take a gap year to travel Vietnam and learn French.

He hopes to study anthropology at university in 2024, and eventually work for the United Nations.

The QCE Achievement Awards are sponsored by Griffith University, The University of Queensland and University of Southern Queensland.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Education Grace Grace:

“These awards highlight what can be achieved within our world-class Queensland education system.

“The Queensland Certificate of Education system allows all senior students to follow the post-school pathway that’s right for them — whether that’s work, further education or training. But it also challenges our most academically gifted students to reach their full potential.

“I thank the school principals, teachers, and all school staff responsible for creating the learning cultures that helped our award winners to thrive.

“This is also a proud day for families, who provide so much support.”
