More local jobs to bring North Queensland flavour

Wait staff, chefs, kitchen staff and bar tenders are being offered a piece of the action in the North Queensland Stadium with catering and hospitality positions up for grabs.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said 1300SMILES caterers Spotless Catering, under the new banner of Pandanus Catering, were looking to build on their current workforce in the new venue, providing all food and beverages for event days, and non-event day conference and banqueting.

“Pandanus Catering are currently targeting a total of 800 match day hospitality staff and over the coming year will also be looking to take on a number of apprenticeships once the stadium is up and running.

“Pandanus are seeking a 100 per cent local game day workforce,” Mr de Brenni said. “They’ll be working with James Cook University as well as local food and beverage producers ensuring the economic benefits of the stadium continue to spread across local small business.

“I’m also pleased to confirm that all existing staff have been assured of their job security.”

Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said that from the inbuilt WiFi, to expertly prepared local food, the North Queensland Stadium was promising a pitch-side experience that couldn’t be missed.

“We’ve already seen around 750 full time jobs erecting this world class stadium, built by North Queensland for North Queensland,” Mr Stewart said.

“And now we’re looking forward to local catering and hospitality staff carrying the torch.

“The 25,000 seat multi-purpose stadium remains on track provide Elton John fans an unmissable experience in February 2020 ahead of next season’s National Rugby League Premiership Season.

“With construction of the venue now more than 80 per cent complete, it’s exciting to see employment opportunities are shifting towards event day roles, which will provide long-term jobs for locals.”

Pandanus Catering Director of Hospitality James Nicholson said the organisation was looking for individuals who would help it continue its positive 10 year relationship with the North Queensland region.

“We’re looking for a world-class Executive Chef to lead our culinary team, establish an appealing North Queensland Stadium food offer and continue our long-term relationships with local suppliers and food and beverage sub-contractors,” Mr Nicholson said.

“We’re also seeking expressions of interest for enthusiastic, energetic, and customer-focussed Catering and Hospitality Team Members across a range of roles including kitchen staff, chefs, cooks, cashiers, food and beverage staff and supervisors at the venue,” he said.

“We’re so excited for the opportunities North Queensland Stadium will bring to the community, and we hope to hire a passionate team of locals to ensure a great experience for spectators every time they visit the stadium.”
