New Fishing Tasmania website launched

Jo Palmer, Minister for Primary Industries and Water

Fishing around Tasmania just became easier with the launch of the new Fishing Tasmania website, a key action under the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s Recreational Sea Fishing Strategy 2021-2030.

The new site has extensive information for beginner and experienced recreational sea fishers, the commercial fishing industry and the wider community who have an interest in understanding how our fisheries are sustainably managed and the rules that apply.

Improved user access to these important tools will help to keep our fish stocks at sustainable levels, ensuring there are fish for future generations to enjoy.

It also includes a useful guide to more than 60 Tasmanian fish species and new map features include detailed interactive fishing maps on where to fish and what you can catch.

There are clickable layers to find shore-based fishing spots, nearby facilities, and fishing restrictions, along with useful information on the location of fishing platforms, boat ramps, campgrounds and finding out what you can catch around the coast.

There are also links to freshwater fishing and boating safety information for those who want to explore all the fishing and boating action that Tasmania has to offer.

Other features on the new site include new video content on fishing basics for beginners including how to cast and rig a line.

I encourage all those budding fishers and those who have been doing it for years to explore the new website and start your fishing journey at fishing.tas.gov.au
