Volunteers and organisations with volunteers will be able to access specialised resources about working during a pandemic, which have been developed by Volunteering Queensland.
The resources – Volunteering in Response to a Pandemic: A Practical Guide for Volunteers and Responding to a Pandemic: A Guide for Volunteer Involving Organisations – have been released as part of National Volunteer Week.
Minister for Communities Coralee O’Rourke said in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was important for volunteers and organisations with volunteers to have information about delivering services safely and in line with health advice.
“These resources are timely, comprehensive and align with government health advice regarding physical distancing and other measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection,” Mrs O’Rourke said.
“The resources are interactive and user friendly, allowing volunteers and organisations to complete checklists and record ideas and information relating specifically to their needs for future reference.
“COVID-19 may have changed the way volunteers work, but it hasn’t changed the importance of, and demand for, their support in our communities.
“Keeping volunteers and community members safe is vital during this challenging time and I applaud Volunteering Queensland for developing and releasing these resources.”
Volunteering Queensland CEO Mara Basanovic said they had consulted the volunteering sector widely to produce the resources.
“These interactive guides will help volunteers and volunteer organisations to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in a practical way,” Ms Basanovic said.
“The guides incorporate many learnings that are useful for the current situation, and for any pandemics that Queensland may face in the future.
“Included is a checklist for volunteer organisation to help them plan for a post-pandemic environment and transition to a new ‘business as usual.”
