On 26 July 2019, thousands of students planted seedlings to improve their school grounds and learn more about the environment.
The seedlings will provide canopy cover and vital shade in the future.
Planning and Public Spaces Minister Rob Stokes said it was fantastic to see so many kids inspired by Schools Tree Day and actively involved in making their communities greener.
“I encourage the broader community to get out and celebrate National Tree Day this Sunday,” Mr Stokes said.
“Whether at school, home or at your work space, I encourage everyone to get out today or over the weekend and plant a tree or two and register it on the website.”
The NSW Government has set a target to increase the tree canopy and green cover across Great Sydney by planting one million trees by 2022.
In 2018, more than 200,000 Australians participated in Planet Ark’s National Tree Day. More than 700,000 plants were planted at 3000 locations.
