Powering Queensland’s State Emergency Service

The Queensland State Emergency Service (SES) has received a $300,000 investment, under the renewal of the Energising Queensland SES Equipment Program for 2026-27.

The program, a partnership with Energy Queensland, through their Energex and Ergon Energy Networks, and Powerlink Queensland, was officially renewed at the Deception Bay SES Group depot today.

Established in 2015, it continues to strengthen the state’s disaster resilience by equipping SES groups with tools and training equipment to support their response capabilities.

The investment will fund equipment, including generators, portable power stations, lighting, power tools, vehicle accessories, first aid training resources, stretchers, and water rescue and height safety training equipment.

SES Acting Chief Officer Danny Baade welcomed the ongoing support, highlighting the shared commitment to helping Queensland communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from severe weather events.

“This ongoing collaboration provides our volunteers with modern equipment that helps them to respond safely and effectively to emergencies,” Acting Chief Officer Baade said.

“With the support of Powerlink and Energy Queensland, we can continue building resilience and preparedness within our state, safeguarding lives and property during times of need.”

Energy Queensland Chief Operating Officer Jeff Green said the partnership is a perfect example of Queenslanders helping Queenslanders.

“SES volunteers provide Queensland communities with enormous peace of mind during disasters, knowing skilled and dedicated people are there to help when they’re needed most,” Mr Green said.

“They also play a vital role in supporting our power restoration efforts by helping keep the public safe around fallen powerlines and assisting crews to access impacted areas.

“That’s why Energy Queensland is proud to support the SES, knowing the lifesaving equipment we help provide is making a real difference on the frontline during emergencies.”

Powerlink’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Seán Mc Goldrick, said the partnership signifies a shared purpose of serving Queenslanders and supporting communities.

“In Queensland’s time of need, SES volunteers are among the first to step forward and help communities recover,” Dr Mc Goldrick said.

“Powerlink is proud to support the people who step forward when their communities need them most, helping ensure they have the equipment and resources to make a difference when it matters most.

“We have seen the benefits of this investment over the last eleven years, and we look forward to seeing it continue.”
