Road closures as Mundy Creek Footbridge returns

There will be full and partial road closures between 10am and 2pm on Heatley’s Parade in Rowes Bay this Tuesday, 18 April as Council re-installs the Mundy Creek Footbridge.

The footbridge required handrail renewals and associated infrastructure works to ensure structural integrity was maintained and ongoing community safety is upheld.

The works will require partial and full road closures to safely re-install the footbridge with the help of a 300-tonne crane before the road re-opens as normal from 2pm

Painting, welding, and finishing work on the bridge will happen from 19-20 April before the bridge is fully opened to the public on Friday, 21 April.

Infrastructure Services Committee Chairperson Kurt Rehbein said the works came as part of Council’s annual maintenance program.

“Council recently conducted a level 2 bridge inspection that reviewed the overall structural integrity of the pedestrian footbridge to ensure that the asset is and continues to be safe for public use,” Cr Rehbein said.

“Results from the inspection highlighted some remedial actions that were required to be carried out on the pedestrian footbridge.

“Due to the high-risk nature of these works, Heatley’s Parade will be under full Traffic Management for the reinstatement of the bridge.”

Cr Rehbein thanked residents in Rowes Bay for their patience as Council undertakes these crucial works.

“Council is committed to providing and maintaining over $6B worth of community assets consisting of water and wastewater networks, bridges, drainage, roads, waste management, community facilities, sporting venues and more throughout our city,” he said.
