Santa makes early visit to Waurn Ponds

Santa has made a very special visit to the Strom family in Waurn Ponds after 16-month-old toddler Elka won the Christmas in Geelong Santa Visit competition.

Mr Claus arrived at Elka’s house on a fire truck, accompanied by local firefighters, to make the visit even more memorable.

The 16-month-old’s good friends 7-year-old Lachie and Fraser, aged 10, were there to share in the excitement and all three received hand delivered gifts.

The City’s photographer took professional photos of Elka, her mum Honor and her grandparents as they soaked in the magic to commemorate this unforgettable meeting.

Mackenzie Sinclair from St Leonards and Sarah Steel from Belmont will savour a range of delicious treats with loved ones after winning Christmas hampers for signing up to our Christmas in Geelong database.

The jam-packed hampers are valued at $250 and were thoughtfully curated by Valerie’s Pantry from High Street in Belmont.

Westfield Gift Cards worth $50 will make their way to couple Liam Rodger and Rachel D’Cruz, Melanie Hudson and Samantha Attwood, with one more still up for grabs.

The photographers snapped clever and creative pics at our events and activities and posted them on social media with the hashtag #GeelongChristmas.

Community members who attend Christmas in Geelong activities can go into the draw to win one of three $100 gift cards by visiting our Your Say page and filling out the survey.

Mayor Trent Sullivan

The competition is well sought after each year and Council is thrilled to have made one lucky child’s day.

One of the best things about Christmas is the immense joy that children experience during this time, so we’re pleased that Santa was able to surprise Elka and her friends at her home.

We have plenty of experiences and activities to help people of all ages celebrate Christmas in their own unique way.

Council wishes every Greater Geelong community member and visitor to our region a very merry and safe Christmas.

Councillor Ron Nelson – Kardinia Ward

One of the joys of Christmas is sharing the festive season with your loved ones, so it was an absolute delight to see the impact Santa’s surprise visit had on Elka and her friends when I visited.

Council was proud to offer weekly prizes and experiences to make our Christmas in Geelong program even more special.

Don’t forget, our Sound and Light Shows on the Floating Christmas Tree at Steampacket Quay and City Hall’s Christmas Projections continue each night from 8:30pm.
