Stimulus package delivers new containers for Midland Men’s Shed

The Midland Men’s Shed, a place for conversations, coffee and carpentry, has welcomed a new addition on the premises; containers.

The City of Swan recently installed two 20ft shipping containers at the Midland Men’s Shed facility on Swan Avenue, Midvale, as part of the City’s $8.85 million economic stimulus package.

Midland Men’s Shed Manager Brian Beer said he was pleased the project was fast-tracked and had already put the shipping containers to good use.

“Our materials and supplies are generously donated by the community, and we often run out of space to store it all,” Brian said.

“As well as more storage space, we also have more floor space in the workshop for the members who attend weekly to work on wood and metal projects, as well as engage in meaningful conversations and fellowship.”

City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey said the project had injected $40,000 into the local economy.

“The economic stimulus package is an important part of the City’s COVID-19 Recovery Strategy to help rebuild our economy and make our community stronger than ever,” Mayor Bailey said.

“Not only does this project provide important community benefits, we were able to engage local contractors ABM Landscaping and Midland Mini Crete to complete the preliminary works.

“By supporting local jobs in the planning, building and construction industries, we’re able to keep money flowing in our community at a time when we need it most.”

A list of the approved economic stimulus projects is available on the City’s website.
