Sydney dam levels are at 95% capacity, marking a four-year high with the recent rainfall generating the best inflows in the last six months.
Greater Sydney’s combined dam storage is at 94.9% capacity, marking an increase of 9.8% since Friday 7 August 2020.
Warragamba Dam is the largest dam on the east coast of NSW and the main water supply for Sydney.
The Warragamba Dam level is now at 96% capacity. In February 2020, the dam only reached 42.7% capacity.
In the Shoalhaven region, the recent rainfall has spilled over to the Nepean Dam and Tallowa Dam, reaching 100% dam level capacity, with Wingecarribee Reservoir at 99.6% capacity.
Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey said while this is a relief for Sydney residents, regional communities are still feeling the effects of the recent drought.
“While Greater Sydney’s water supply is healthy, our regional catchments continue to slowly recover from one of the worst droughts on record,” Mrs Pavey said.
“We must remain vigilant in protecting this precious resource for all water users across the state.”
