This Territory Day, let’s celebrate the amazing things about the Territory, and make sure we do it safely. Fireworks can be dangerous and present a high risk of injury or the starting of unintentional fires. Please follow all instructions and warnings as prescribed by the manufacturer.

How to dispose of fireworks properly and where and when you can use them

On Territory Day, the public sale, use and possession of fireworks is only allowed within approved periods. The approved periods for this year are:

– Sale of fireworks – Saturday 1 July, 9am to 9pm

– Use of fireworks – Saturday 1 July, 6pm to 11pm

– Possession of fireworks – Saturday 1 July, 9am to Monday 3 July, 12pm (midday)

– Anyone caught with fireworks outside of the approved periods will face a fine which has now increased to $1760.

– Only buy fireworks from licenced retailers and only buy the quantity they can safely let off within the approved period. A list of licenced retailers is available at here

– The personal use of fireworks is banned on Mindil Beach and at the Territory Day community events listed here here.

– Once celebrations are over, people are encouraged to wet down and bin all fireworks debris, including spent fireworks cartridges and associated litter.

– Anyone with unused fireworks should contact NT WorkSafe on 1800 019 115 to organise handing in of fireworks for safe disposal.

– It’s illegal to transport fireworks into other jurisdictions. Interstate visitors are reminded not to take Territory Day fireworks back to their home state or territory.
