Two new Police projects supporting Toowoomba community

Police Minister Mark Ryan and Assistant Commissioner Mike Condon today toured two new police facilities in the Toowoomba area that have delivered jobs and will support community safety.

Both the new Highfields Police Facility and the Newtown Police Facility are now operational.

The Police Minister said the two projects were examples of this year’s record $2.6bn police budget at work.

“The two projects represent a combined $2.7m investment.

“Their construction was an investment in jobs for local builders and contractors.

“And longer term, these projects represent an investment in enhanced community safety.

“This is about delivering for local communities.

“Under the Newman Government the Newtown Police Beat was shut down.

“Under the Palaszczuk Government not only has a permanent police presence been reinstated in Newtown, the new facility is much larger than the old Police Beat.

“The Newtown Police Facility houses the District Crime Prevention Unit and a Cross Cultural Liaison Officer.

“There is also an Administration Officer operating from Newtown Police Facility to assist with public enquiries.

“The new Highfields Police Facility became operational earlier this month

“Again, it’s a case of a much larger facility replacing a Police Beat.

“The expanded police presence reflects the significant business and residential development that has occurred in the Highfields area in recent years.

“Criminal Investigation Branch detectives are operating from the new station along with general duties officers and administrative staff.

“Highfields will be a training station and will host additional First Year Constables in their training phase.

“Significantly, the station is built for the future with space for future staff growth,” Minister Ryan said.

Assistant Commissioner Condon said the new facilities were important additions to the local policing footprint.

“The Highfields and Newtown communities will benefit from the enhanced policing services enabled by these new facilities.

“We remain committed to working with these communities well into the future to prevent, disrupt, respond to and investigate crime in the area,” Assistant Commissioner Condon said.
