JOINT STATEMENT

  • Extra personnel remain on the ground supporting Cairns and the FNQ
  • Proactive police patrols of flood affected areas are ensuring property is protected

Two weeks on from Tropical Cyclone Jasper crossing the coast, Far North Queenslanders are being applauded for their community spirit and dedication as the flood recovery and clean-up continues.

From Cape York to Cairns and Mareeba to Mossman, extra police officers, SES volunteers and emergency services personnel put their hands up to travel to the Far North days before Christmas, to support the continued response.

These officers remain on the ground supporting Far North communities, including feeding local animals that were unable to be evacuated from Wujal Wujal.

The Queensland Police Service launched Operation Victor Conrad, which involves officers conducting proactive patrols of flood-affected areas 24/7 to ensure vulnerable flood victims’ properties are protected.

Three reports of looting at Wujal Wujal and Ayton remain under investigation, and no further reports have been received.
