The partnership will support media diversity by developing the independent information resource.

UNSW Sydney has partnered with Monash University to develop the 360info independent resource for publishers, broadcasters, schools and civic society outlets. Launched by Monash, 360info operates as a newswire agency distributing research-driven content addressing and providing solutions to the world’s great challenges.

Since 2021, 360info has established content partnerships with more than 1000 media outlets from India through to Asia, Australia and the Pacific. It is curated by a team of experienced journalists and news editors who collaborate with researchers from universities around the world to create factual multimedia packages and explainers. A 360info editor is now based at UNSW’s Kensington campus.

“We welcome the 360info initiative to deliver accurate and trusted information at a time when media diversity matters more than ever. This project will prove to be a valuable resource providing reliable information for newsrooms,” UNSW Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Attila Brungs said.

“UNSW academics have long been a strong and trusted voice in the media, and we see this as an excellent opportunity to partner and promote the wonderful work of all research universities.”

Monash University Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC said, “This new collaboration with UNSW is another exciting opportunity for the advancement of 360info. It exemplifies the shared commitment our universities have made to upholding public-interest journalism and elevating research-led solutions to the world’s most significant challenges.

“By leveraging the expertise and resources of institutions such as Monash and UNSW, 360info is greatly enhancing widespread public access to high-quality, solutions-driven journalism that informs and empowers. On behalf of Monash, I am delighted to welcome UNSW into a growing global cohort of 360info partner universities, and I thank them for their commitment to further advancing this important initiative.”

The 360info project is led by Andrew Jaspan, founder of The Conversation and former Editor-in-Chief of The Age and The Sunday Age.
