Update regarding long grass and fallen trees and branches 21 March

Mowing and long grass update

With more than 2,500 parks, reserves and roadsides across Casey, we use three different contractors to maintain these open spaces, which means they are maintained on different service cycles.

Our contractor who maintains parks in Casey’s central area, which includes Lynbrook, Hampton Park, Narre Warren, Cranbourne, Clyde North, and Cranbourne East, has, unfortunately, had ongoing staff shortages and delays in importing mowers and equipment due to the pandemic. While our other contractors have experienced similar challenges, this has been on a much lower scale.

Since February 2022 we have adjusted our maintenance schedule in the central area and are continuing to work closely with the contractor to ensure we can get back to maintaining our parks and open spaces in line with service and the community’s expectations as soon as possible.

Storm clean up

As mentioned in our previous update, Council received over 5,200 customer requests for storm and tree-related assistance between October and December 2021, which is greater than 50 per cent of the volume of requests that Council received for the entire 2020/21 financial year.

We currently have 575 job requests outstanding that were received between October and December 2021, and a further 1,100 which were received in January 2022.

While we are not quite back to our usual response times due to this back log, we are continuing to work hard with additional resources and have completed over 4,440 jobs.
