Volunteers celebrated across Mitchell

As part of National Volunteer Week, Mitchell Shire Council is celebrating the work of hundreds of volunteers across the municipality with special thank you evenings in Kilmore and Seymour.

Thousands of events across Australia are held during National Volunteer Week from 20 to 26 May to thank the six million Australians who volunteer their time.

The week also highlights the positive impact that volunteers have on the community, the many ways that people can volunteer and the work that many organisations do to support volunteers.

This year’s national theme is Making a World of Difference. Locally, the theme is recognising the many hats that volunteers wear in the community.

Mitchell Shire Council is also using the week to encourage groups who may be seeking volunteers and people who may be thinking about volunteering to visit www.volunteeringmitchell.com.a… to add or view current opportunities.

The Community Directory on Mitchell Shire Council’s website also lists many active community groups and organisations.

As noted by Mitchell Shire Mayor, Councillor Bill Chisholm

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our community right across the municipality.

“One of the things we hear time and time again, is that people love living in Mitchell because of the ‘community feel’.

“They give so much and we are so grateful for everything that they do to make our community the great place that it is.

“On behalf of Council and the community, I would also like to extend a special thank you to the many volunteers who work so tirelessly across council’s committees of management, advisory committees, working groups, the Visitor Information Centre and at our events.”
