Western Australia coronovirus update as at 23 June 2021

The Department of Health has reported no new cases of COVID-19 overnight in WA.

The State’s total remains 1020.

WA Health is monitoring two active cases of COVID-19 ­– 1009 people have recovered from the virus in WA.

Western Australia is reintroducing a hard border, transitioning NSW to a ‘medium risk’ State in the wake of the escalating situation and NSW COVID-19 outbreak.

Following updated advice from the WA Chief Health Officer this morning, NSW will transition from a ‘very low risk’ with a quarantine and test regime to ‘medium risk’ under WA’s controlled interstate border regime, from 11am today (June 23).

All people who have arrived into WA from New South Wales are asked to continue to monitor updated exposure sites on the NSW Health website (external site)

WA Health has issued advice for travellers who have recently returned from Queensland and after new locally acquired COVID cases were identified in that state.

Recent Queensland arrivals who have been to one of the listed exposure sites (external site)during the relevant times is required to get tested immediately and self-quarantine for 14 days, followed by a test on day 11.

Recently returned travellers from Queensland should continue to monitor the Queensland Health site.

Yesterday, 1615 people were swabbed at WA Health COVID clinics.

There have been 1,274,200 COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those, 161,481 were from regional WA.

To date, 97 cases of variant strains have been detected in Western Australia – 53 of the Alpha (UK variant) strain, 15 of the Beta (South African variant) strain, one of the Gamma (Brazilian variant) strain and 28 of the Delta (Indian variant) strain.
