A man has been charged with affray after a woman was allegedly assaulted in Sydney’s south-west yesterday.
About 11am (Monday 25 January 2021), police responded to reports of an assault at the intersection of Canterbury Road and Chapel Street, Lakemba.
Police were told a man stopped at a set of traffic lights, left his vehicle, and approached another car. The man allegedly punched a female passenger in the face, then returned to his vehicle.
The woman then left her car and approached the man, who was in the driver’s seat, and attempted to punch him.
The man then drove off with the woman’s arm stuck in the window. She fell to her knees and was dragged along the road before eventually freeing herself. The man did not stop to check on her welfare.
Following inquiries, the man was stopped a short time later in Petersham. The 37-year-old man was arrested and taken to Campsie Police Station.
The Canterbury man was charged with affray. He has been granted conditional bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday 16 February 2021.
Investigators have yet to establish the identity of the woman who was assaulted and are appealing for her, or anyone who witnessed the incident, to contact Campsie Police or Crime Stoppers.
