Australia’s next generation of elite talent will be on display again this season at the Cricket Australia (CA) Underage National Championships.
Five events – Under 19 Male, Under 18 Female, Under 17 Male and Under 15 Female and Male – will be held to showcase the best young cricketers in Australian Cricket’s Pathways system.
The Championships provide players with the opportunity to represent their states and territories while testing their skills against fellow up-and-coming cricketers.
CA Pathways Manager, Graham Manou, said the Underage National Championships represent a crucial step for young players aiming for higher honours.
“The Underage National Championships are an integral part of the Australian Cricket Pathway,” Manou said.
“These tournaments continue to provide important development opportunities for our next generation of State and Australian cricketers.
“CA High Performance Coach – Female Program, Leah Poulton, explained the Championships continue to showcase talent on the fringes of elite level competition.
“The Championships provide a platform for Australia’s most exciting young talent to showcase their skills and perform against their peers,” Poulton said.
“There has been a remarkable record of players transitioning from our underage championships into elite competitions.
“Only a few seasons ago players such as Tayla Vlaeminck and Sophie Molineux were representing their states at pathway level, now they’re producing match winning performances for their country.
“I’m looking forward to watching the next generation seize their opportunity at this year’s events.”
The Underage Male Championships are proudly presented by Woolworths and the Underage Female Championships by Commonwealth Bank.
This season’s Underage National Championships will be held at the below venues and dates:
- Under 17 Male: 30 September to 10 October, Mackay, Queensland
- Under 19 Male: 2 December to 12 December, Perth, Western Australia
- Under 18 Female: 13 January to 23 January in Hobart & Launceston, Tasmania
- Under 15 Male: 20 to 27 February, Ballarat, Victoria
- Under 15 Female: 26 February to 3 March, Canberra, ACT
