Blacktown’s inclusion in Western Sydney City Deal makes sense

The Western Sydney Business Chamber has supported Federal Labor’s commitment to expand the Western Sydney City Deal to include Blacktown City Council.

David Borger, Executive Director of the Western Sydney Business Chamber, said, “Blacktown City Council is a significant part of the region and is one of the most populous local government areas in Sydney so it makes sense that it is included in the Western Sydney City Deal.

“The Western Sydney City Deal is a landmark plan for the region, providing a coordinated approach across eight local government areas to ensure investment and economic opportunities are maximised.

“It is important Blacktown doesn’t miss out on City Deal opportunities such as access to the Liveability Fund, involvement in the planning partnership and recognition of the massive opportunities the Western Sydney Airport can provide to Blacktown citizens.

“The Chamber is pleased the Federal Opposition, if elected, will include Blacktown in the deal to realise the 30-minute city concept to ensure the area is not left behind other Western Sydney local government areas.

“Blacktown has an exciting future with its proposed university campus and council building so it is important Blacktown has access to critical infrastructure funds to enable renewal to its downtown,” Mr Borger said.

“All levels of government taking a collaborative approach to encourage new investment in the region can only mean good news.

“The deal will boost local projects in Blacktown as well as the bigger picture of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, shifting the needle on jobs and improving the region as a place to live, work and play,” he said.

The Chamber also welcomes Labor’s $7.5 million commitment to invest in local projects identified by Blacktown City Council.
