Construction of Robertson Park toilets to start in New Year

Construction on the long awaited Robertson Park toilets will begin in the first half of January 2020, ensuring the new amenities block is ready for Anzac Day.

Following an open quotation process, the contract for the $195,000 construction project was awarded to local builders, Renascent Regional.

The new building will contain 3 separate toilet cubicles, including an accessible toilet equipped with a change-table. The building will be constructed next to the pathway that runs through the middle of Robertson Park, near the CWA hall.

PARK : Work will begin in the new year on a new toilet in the northern end of Robertson Park.

The toilet is designed to complement the heritage features of the park. It will be constructed of similarly-coloured brick and materials as the CWA hall. There will also be a skylight in the roof, along with a paved pergola entrance at the front of the building, which faces the CWA hall.

Exterior CCTV will be installed to monitor the area of the park that surrounds the toilets. Automatic entry doors will be set to open during daylight hours only, expect for when night events are on in the park.

Orange City Mayor Cr Reg Kidd said :”Construction isn’t far away and I am looking forward to seeing the finished product that will not only service the community but also suit the heritage-listed park.”

Council crews will aim to beautify the space with plants that are sympathetic to the park in the future, once weather conditions improve and plant growth can be sustained.

Orange City Councillor Glenn Taylor has been championing this project for many years. “This project has been high on my priority list for some time,” Cr Glenn Taylor said, “and I’m pleased that the community of Orange will have a toilet block in Robertson Park for years to come, as of Anzac Day next year.”

The Sir Neville Howse memorial is in the area proposed for the new toilet block. The memorial will be relocated to another area in the park. The nearby Boer War memorial will be unaffected.

Work is expected to kick start in the first half of January 2020 and, weather permitting, will be finished in time for the annual Anzac Day commemorations.
