There’s already plenty to consider when planning this year’s annual Christmas party, but have you thought of a plan B?
In light of some COVID-19 restrictions easing, work Christmas parties are back on the agenda.
Now is a good time for employers to consider signing up for the Plan B program, aimed at getting staff home safely.
With the help of the Orange Liquor Accord and the Taxis of Orange Co-operative, Orange City Council is encouraging employers to register for free taxi vouchers.
Businesses can register their workplace Christmas party online through Orange City Council’s website.
Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said the right planning will deliver a fun and safe Christmas party.

“If you’re celebrating and alcohol is involved, then it’s simple. Leave the car at home and make a taxi your Plan B,” Mayor Reg Kidd said.
“With the support of the clubs and hotels of the Orange Liquor Accord and the Taxis of Orange we encourage all businesses to register their workplace Christmas party.
“It’s important that all workmates are aware of the risks of drink-driving and the consequences for their families”
Road Safety Officer for Orange and Cabonne Councils Andrea Hamilton-Vaughan said employers should reinforce the road safety message at this time of year.
“Managers and supervisors wouldn’t think twice about looking after their staff by keeping their workplace safe and organized to avoid potential trip hazards,” she said.
“It’s the same with planning a Christmas party, to make sure everyone gets home safely.”
The Orange Liquor Accord and the is contributing $2,000 towards the costs of the campaign. Orange Liquor Accord chair, Mr Mark Murphy said a taxi voucher could make all the difference to a successful Christmas party.
“Calling a cab after a Christmas party is a great way of looking after your work-mates and making sure they get home safely.”
Taxi cabs of Orange cooperative contributed $1500 towards the program and chairman, Ged Dening, said taxis were the safest option after a night out.
“The popularity of this program increases every year, which is really great to see,” Mr Dening said.
“Don’t risk it, don’t drink and drive. Call a cab, we’re available 24/7.”
The first 10 businesses that register will be eligible for 10, $10 taxi vouchers each week. Taxi vouchers are limited to one voucher per trip per person. Taxi vouchers are capped at $10.
The Plan B initiative is partly funded by Transport for NSW.
