Energy Breakthrough will continue its partnership with Central Highlands Water again in 2023 as it introduces no single-use plastics for the first time in the event’s history and encourages participants to Choose Tap.

Last year’s Energy Breakthrough event was the most sustainable in its 30-year history with 3,500 kilograms of waste materials generated by the event diverted away from landfill.

To support this initiative, Central Highlands Water will be onsite Thursday and Friday of the event, selling their Choose Tap stainless-steel reusable water bottles with 100% of proceeds going to their water bottle partner, the Ballarat and District Aboriginal Corporation.

The Central Highlands Water Choose Tap Hydration Station (water trailer) will also be onsite all week at Energy Breakthrough to allow teams and spectators to ‘Bring your own bottle’ (BYOB) for water refills, so everyone can stay hydrated and help eliminate single-use plastic waste.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor-elect and Energy Breakthrough’s Management Group Committee Member Liesbeth Long and said they were thrilled to have Central Highlands Water on board again this year.

“We are grateful to Central Highlands Water for the ongoing support – a partnership which has spanned more than 25 years.

“There are some great synergies between what we are both working to achieve and none more so than this year as we hope to build on the sustainability of last year’s event with a focus on no-single use plastics.

“We’re very much looking forward to going one better with our sustainability efforts this year and this wouldn’t be possible without the support of Central Highlands Water.”

Central Highlands Water Managing Director Jeff Haydon said as community partners for over 25 years, Central Highlands Water (CHW) is proud to continue supporting the Maryborough Energy Breakthrough in 2023.

“Together with the Central Goldfields Shire Council, we have partnered together to install permanent Choose Tap drinking water fountains across Princess Park to encourage the local community to Choose Tap water over single-use plastic bottled water, for health, sustainability and cost benefits.”
