Port Macquarie Hastings Council, in conjunction with the NSW Government and local industry groups, has put together a comprehensive program of events and activities for Small Business Month during March.
This year’s theme is ‘Rebuild – Recharge – Renew’, with the aim of helping the business community get back on their feet and find new opportunities and innovate. Through the activities planned, business owners will learn new skills to help them navigate the road ahead and will get the opportunity to network and collaborate with other entrepreneurs.
The program is designed to help local businesses plan, create, and implement smart and efficient business tactics to drive growth. With the right education and tools, business owners can pinpoint the specific challenges they’re facing — such as brand inconsistency, IT problems or supply issues – and better understand the solutions needed to overcome them.
The NSW Government Small Business Commissioner and NSW Treasury has supported Port Macquarie Hastings Council through $2,500 in funding for Small Business Month.
Council’s key event is the Innovation Hub Open Night on March 24, with guest speaker Nils Vesk at the Charles Sturt University Innovation Hub.
Nils will deliver a fast paced, high impact session on innovation – sharing his formula for enabling ordinary people to create extraordinary ideas, solutions, and innovation at minimal risk. Those attending will hear about rapid problem solving strategies and innovation tips – while connecting with other business owners.
Liesa Davies, Group Manager for Economic and Cultural Development at Port Macquarie-Hastings Council says the event will also provide an opportunity for businesses to learn how to capitalise on the changing landscape to grow and evolve.
“The Innovation Hub is home to our state of our art co-working facility – which supports many start-ups and growing businesses in our region,” she said.
“We know so many people and businesses in our region are using remote working methods not just to stay in operation – but to scale their business and connect with people all over the country – and internationally.”
“The events in the Small Business Month program have all been thoughtfully created to provide valuable tools and advice – as well as great opportunities to network and collaborate.”
Charles Sturt Director of External Engagement for Port Macquarie Kate Wood-Foye said the University is excited to host such an engaging event.
“The Innovation Hub is designed to be a focal point for ideas and collaboration- and a space for creatives, entrepreneurs, students, researchers and business brains to come together.”

Other highlights in the Small Business Month program, which is happening right throughout March, include:
- Micro Business Forum is holding a Forum to support small business owners. With Keynote speaker Daniel O’Brien. Daniel will share his Results Mindset Quadrant to help you take your business to the next level.
- The Wauchope Business Expo – hosted by the Wauchope Chamber, with Guest MC, Comedian Joel Ozborn. It is sure to be full of fun as you learn more about local business, and grow your networks.
- A unique business presentation from the Port Macquarie Chamber and Greater Port Macquarie Tourism Association, featuring social entrepreneur, philanthropist, campaigner and advocate for the small to medium business sectors, Jon Dee.
- A premier breakfast event for all within the community with inspiring speakers in person and online in Hastings Business Women’s Network’s very first Hybrid Event!
- A ground breaking workshop for forward thinkers of our region, delivered by Australian Regional Tourism Ambassador – Ali Uren. Proudly presented by the Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce.
- A full range of webinars from Business Connect and The Australian Small Business Advisory Services Program.
