Attorney General John Quigley is pleased to announce the appointment of Jane Johnson as a Magistrate of the Family Court of Western Australia.

Admitted to practice in WA in 2008 and New Zealand in 1989, Ms Johnson became an accredited family law specialist in 2015.

In the 16 years prior to her appointment as a Magistrate, she worked as a solicitor at a Perth-based private legal firm that specialises in family and divorce law.

Ms Johnson enhanced her expertise in complex family law matters during this period, conducting and instructing counsel in Family Court trials, and became a director of the firm.

She has been recognised as both a pre-eminent parenting and child custody lawyer for WA and a respected family and divorce lawyer.

While in New Zealand, Ms Johnson worked in family law in private practice for 18 years.

A partner in one of her New Zealand firms for a decade, she acted and advised as a senior lawyer for children and as a senior youth advocate, performing complex trial work in those capacities.

She commences in her new role on 1 January 2024.

As stated by Attorney General John Quigley:

“I congratulate Jane Johnson on being appointed a Magistrate of the Family Court of WA.

“She has served with distinction across two jurisdictions. Her extensive experience spans all aspects of family law including care arrangements for children, child support, parenting issues, spousal maintenance and property and financial settlements.

“Ms Johnson conducted numerous trials and represented children and young people in court proceedings during her time in private practice.

“She will help strengthen the Family Court bench’s presiding of complex family legal matters.”
