A passenger travelling on a ferry from Manly to Circular Quay yesterday has been charged after allegedly committing a sexual act.

About 7.30pm (Wednesday 17 July 2019), a 47-year-old woman was travelling on the ferry when she noticed a man seated close-by, smiling at her.

A short time later the woman noticed the man was allegedly committing a sexual act and notified a staff member.

Police attached to the Police Transport Command met the vessel at Circular Quay and arrested the 70-year-old man.

He was taken to The Rocks Police Station and charged with carry out sexual act with another without consent.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on 7 August 2019.
