Fire Pits And Chimney Smoke

Winter has arrived and residents are starting to use wood heaters or recreational fire pits. During the cooler months smoke will be present in the community from wood heaters and fire pits, however residents can do their part to help keep air quality cleaner with these tips:

  • Use dry, untreated wood in your wood heater or fire pit.
  • Be prepared and get your chimney cleaned.
  • Don’t let a fire smoulder overnight.
  • When using a wood heater ensure the air flue is open.
  • If you have green waste, please use your green-lid bin to dispose of it, do not burn it.

Smoke from wood heaters and recreational fire pits can cause breathing difficulties for vulnerable residents especially people prone to respiratory conditions such as asthma.

Enjoy your recreational fire pit or wood heaters responsibly and minimise smoke to ensure everyone can breathe a little easier this winter.
