Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Guyana’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for June, briefs the press today on the 15-member organ’s programme of work for the month.
According to the country’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, the schedule will include several mandated meetings of the Council, including on Syria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Afghanistan, Central Africa, Sudan, Libya and Yemen. There will also be a mandated meeting on resolution 2334 (2016) concerning Israeli settlements on Palestinian territories.
Guyana was elected to the Security Council as a non-permanent member for a two-year term beginning in January 2024.
