The Launceston General Hospital was again at crisis point last night, showing one of the state’s major hospitals isn’t able to cope with the demand from the community.
The ANMF reported of patients waiting for hours in a crowded emergency department or ramped in an ambulance, with the incredibly hardworking staff stretched to the absolute limit.
Perversely, Health Minister Bridget Archer is still pushing on with $700 million worth of cuts to the department as Tasmanians pay the price for 13 years of Liberal waste.
The only other solution the Government seems to have offered is their ramping ban, which only shifts the pressure from one overworked part of the system to another, and in isolation of any other strategy does nothing to help the situation.
It is impossible to see how the Liberals’ cuts will improve the situation at the Launceston General Hospital, or anywhere else across the state’s stretched health system.
