The community is invited to get involved in a new Urban Design Framework (UDF) project for Maiden Gully that will guide how the town centre can be enhanced and developed to meet the future needs of a growing community.
Once established, the UDF will set the direction and coordination for the future development and enhancement for the Maiden Gully town centre which borders Carolyn Way, Beckhams Road, and Calder Highway.
The Maiden Gully Precinct Structure Plan was adopted in 2020. The City is currently undertaking additional work to provide direction on the complex issues of vegetation protection and bushfire management in the Maiden Gully growth area, which may lead to a revised Structure Plan or residential framework. While this work continues, the UDF, a key recommendation of the Structure Plan, will commence with this public engagement being the first step.
City of Greater Bendigo Manager Strategic Planning Anthony Petherbridge said it was important the future development of the town centre considered community needs, aspirations, and ideas on future amenities.
“The UDF for Maiden Gully aims to provide clarity and understanding on the desired development for the local town area in the future and public consultation will help to inform the project,” Mr Petherbridge said.
“With a growing population, it is necessary for the town centre to be a well-designed, vibrant, safe, and attractive place for the community.
“The City is encouraging the local community, local businesses, community groups, and other relevant stakeholders to actively contribute to the shaping of Maiden Gully’s town centre, including feedback on amenities and features for a well-connected and accessible centre.”
Public consultation has now opened on the City’s engagement platform Let’s Talk until Friday September 8. There are also several opportunities to attend an informal community information session in person:
- 10am to 1pm on Saturday August 19 at Marist College sports field (95 Golf Links Road)
- 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday August 22 at IGA Maiden Gully supermarket (737 Calder Highway)
- 9am to 12pm on Saturday August 26 at IGA Maiden Gully supermarket (737 Calder Highway)
The in-person information sessions also provide an opportunity to see the City’s draft Site Plan for Maiden Gully Recreation Reserve and provide feedback on this project too.
Preparation of the draft Maiden Gully UDF will occur after the public consultation.
